Fabled Friday Fragments

Friday Fragment Friends Find Farm Fresh Fragments Fulfilling.

I thought the all F-word sentence above would be a good title but changed my mind because it is too long.

The fabled Mrs. 4444 is once again collecting fragments for sharing. You will find fresh fragments for your enjoyment at her blog.

Mommy's Idea

A/C repair has risen to the highest praised profession around the country this past month.

As I was walking up to the ATM yesterday, a little old lady asked if I could check her balance. I thought it was a little odd but not being one to disappoint I gave her a push. Poor woman didn’t have much balance and fell.

No I didn’t push any old people or any people of any age but I dislike word verification (WV) on the comment section. I understand the need to control comment spamming. (This post has more of my opinions of the comment sections). Once in awhile WV asks me to enter funny strange “words” into its verification box. Here’s one I got the other day, “moricu”.

I read that as - mor - i - c - u.

Not bad for a blog.

You know you are getting older when:
  • Your teenage daughter is asking you about the Bloody-Mary-in-the-Mirror thing and you look at the bathroom and immediate say, “when is the last time that mirror was cleaned?”. Afterwards your mind is occupied trying to remember the bar where you had those great Bloody Marys.
  • You planned to write a number of "getting older" items but you stopped because you are too drained.

Doctor recommended - I guess they still use that gimmick but I never gave it much credence. I was just reading a few protection tips from a police department. The dog protection one (not much protection) gave me an idea of a better recommendation:

Dog treats recommended by 9 out of 10 home burglars.

Wonderful place to visit but -
I’ve been to great places that I have no desire to live at. For example, Disney World is a fun place (possible nightmare if heat and kids don’t cooperate) but I would not want to live at Disney World or even Orlando. I enjoy downtown Chicago (known as the Loop) but I have no desire to live in a big city.

How about you? Do you have a place you enjoy visiting but would never think of moving there?

I can’t blog

Last Sunday I did my first of many (I hope) Lisleman’s Left-over Laughs (LLL). I’m very pleased to have 8 links of laughs over there. There is still time for you add another one if you have a funny post. I am not planning one this Sunday but maybe in a few weeks.

Hey drop by LLL I have some funny stuff being collected over there and need help taking the laughs away before they get soggy.

I really love NYC, but I just couldn't live there long term. I think I would miss things like Target and being able to drive my own car.

I really think you missed your calling, Lisleman; you would make a good marketing guy (so creative and funny!) Enjoyed your fragments, as usual.  I especially enjoyed the photo of the monkey/primate/whatever and the old lady fragment.

My dog's favorite treat is a stick of butter. (He usually helps himself.)

FFFFFFFFFing good fragments. I like visiting San Francisco and Boston, but both are  too ritzy for my budget.

lisleman said...

thanks I like Chicago better but I'll admit I've given NYC only a short visit.

Two great cities - I've gotten totally lost around Boston and ask people that know me, I'll very good at navigating.   thanks

My Calling - hmm,  My last great job (the one mentioned in the background page) allowed me to be an idea contributor and I worked with marketing.  That primate is from Japan and was found on the NGM web site.  I'm glad you thought the pushing to check an old lady's balance was funny because I expected  many might not find humor in it.
thanks

always making me lol Lisleman. according to your definition, I'm old. And I KNEW IT! Everytime I tell people I'm old, they tell me I'm not.

I like visiting my neighborhood, but I don't want to live there.

You said it like you think Chicago is not a big city. Did I misread it? I like Chicago too, it is easy to find your way around there and people are pretty nice, at least in my experiences.
My favorite city I think is San Francisco. I wouldn't want to live in Florida much less around Orlando.

WV is a pain but so is spam. I love NYC but could never live there the noise and pollution is too much and LA for the same plus traffic and gangs etc...
Have a great weekend!

I'm a shaky old lady and I laughed out loud at your old lady pushing joke.  Nothing as refreshing as cruelty humor!

Cities?  I've visited Rome, but I'd never want to live there.  Or any city at all except maybe Minneapolis----where my son's family lives.  I love small town life.

I love Washington, DC but doubt I'd want to live there. Too much too much there. :-)

I think I'm too old to continue....

lisleman said...

Maybe my wording was confusing but of course I consider Chicago a big city.  City life is fun to experience but I would not want to live in it all the time.
thanks

thanks - visiting your neighborhood ? - I take it you mean your old neighborhood because where ever you're living is your neighborhood.  Hey no problem I'm always dropping key words from my writing so I understand.  I know some older people who would say I'm young but my grandkids think I'm old.  It's all relative.
thanks.

lisleman said...

I agree noise, pollution and traffic are not enjoyable.  I don't care for big crowds either.  However those things are typically tolerable for a visit.
thanks

UP and small towns - I would say those go together.  "Cruelty humor" - that's a new one for me.  A form of black humor I guess.  Thanks for letting me know you found it funny.

LOL - I'm sure you're not too old to be cruising the blogs and using the comment sections.  DC is at the top of my list of places all Americans should visit and I don't like making lists.
thanks

There is such a big difference between visiting someplace and living there.  We used to visit the small, rural town we now live in and decided we had to move here.  It hasn't lived up to our expectations.  Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it, it just isn't the Mayberryesque town we thought it would be.

I love to visit the Brunswick Islands of North Carolina and I'm pretty sure I would enjoy living there.  I can't imagine ever getting sick of living on an island and being surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.

lisleman said...

Interesting that you bring up islands.  I've learned many people have a problem with the isolation of an island.  Now the one you mention I'm guessing is a barrier island so maybe there is a bridge for easy access.  I've heard people dislike Hawaii living because they can't just drive somewhere.  Different folks different strokes - right?
thanks

tracismixedbag said...

I meant exactly what I said. I like visiting my neighborhood but I do not want to live here and not to mention I never thought I would live here. I didn't realize you were so strict with your questions Lisleman.LOL. So that's my answer. I can't think of any other place that I've visited. There are places like Oklahoma, I don't want to live in or visit.

I hate word verification.  So annoying.

lisleman said...

agree - thanks

lisleman said...

I certainly don't mean to be strict about anything up here.  So you don't like living in your neighborhood.  Not a good situation.  We don't get to pick our neighbors and we have both good and bad but we had even worse in the past.  thanks

I am so sorry I missed LLL.  I will try to remember this week:)  Thank you so much for commenting on my (Rant) post:)

You need to post your OWN stuff on your leftover laugh blog - that "balance" joke in this post cracked me up!!! As for where I would never want to live but only visit - NO PLACE!! I wish I could truly live like the locals anywhere I travel but not forever. I prefer to keep moving if I could! W.C.C.

lisleman said...

No problem it was a thoughtful rant.  thanks

lisleman said...

I did put one of my own posts on the LLL and now that you said this I might just make that a regular part of it.  I modified a similar joke I heard so I don't want to take full credit for the balance joke.  So mister rambling man you don't want the grass growing under your feet?  Did you ever think of an RV roaming the country?  That reminds me I need to cut the grass.

Tracismixedbag said...

I'm just giving you a hard time especially since now that I think about it, my response didn't make sense to anyone but me. And no, I'm not too fond of my neighborhood, I'd rather live by the beach.

I love D.C. but I don't think I could ever live there.

Let Go of My Ego! (sorry I saw the box of Ego's and my mind went straight to that.)

lisleman said...

Yes they had a hit slogan with "let go of my eggo".  But if you meant ego that's a great play on the slogan.
thanks

I like the checking balance joke.

thanks - do you think it would go over well with you mom?

i LOVE this sort of post from you, sugar! xoxoxox

thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it.  They are more fun when you know people like them.

Hah!  I am laughing so hard about pushing over little old ladies.  I'm not sure what that says about me but the mental image is hilarious... and sorta terrible :P

I like to visit Amsterdam every now and then but I think it would be a horrible place to live.  I'm torn on the city life thing though.  I took a ride through the countryside the other day and thought about how peaceful and nice it was but then I thought about how amazingly convenient it is to have everything within 3 or 4 miles of home and am not sure I'd want to leave the city where I am.
