soundtrack of your life

Now that’s a thought stirring question, I said to myself when I first heard it. There are many sounds that would be included in a life soundtrack that are not songs. I should return to this broad question in a future post.

Jene over at The Original Bean asked a more specific question about a soundtrack. This week (week 6 of her challenge/game) Jene is asking for your favorite song from a movie soundtrack.  You should click over there and join in.

Please tell me music lovers do you have as much trouble selecting songs as I do?

I can narrow it down to a handful or so, but that actually final selection is tough. But you know what? It’s not final. Ok it’s final for this post but who is to say I won’t revisit this in a few months?

Movies and songs go together well like eggs and bacon, peanut butter and bacon, or ice cream and bacon.

Hey I like bacon ok.

Some movies are based on musicals (“Grease” (comes from bacon), “West Side Story”) and have a full soundtrack. Other movies are based on band or singer (“Walk the Line”, “Ray”, “Across the Universe”) so they have a built-in set of songs.  Is it just me, or are there more of these types lately?  What do you think?

My selection comes from the soundtracks that provide the backgrounds for mood setting in the scenes. “The Graduate”, “Rocky”, and “The Big Chill” are movies that have great memorable songs.

My selection might not go over well with many of you. I understand (you might not like bacon either). The title subject is not a pleasant or welcomed one. But I can listen to this song and ponder its lyrics over and over again. So think about it in a more philosophical way. (BTW - I disagree with the title and think of it more as a question)

Movie - “M.A.S.H.”
Song - “Suicide is Painless”

...
A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
is it to be or not to be
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

The soundtrack I remember the most and that I listened to the most was probably from Footloose. I loved that!

thanks for sharing. That was a fun movie. Didn't Flashdance come out a little after that? That was a good dance movie too. Hey you should do a post on your selection and link it up with Jene's blog - the link thing stays open for a few days.

I didn't really purchase many movie soundtracks. I think I own Last of the Mohicans. I do love West Side Story.

You don't need to buy the whole soundtrack anymore and typically there's only a few good ones in the soundtrack. By good ones I mean ones that you don't need the movie scene to enjoy the song. Hakuna Matata

Does Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' entire album count as a soundtrack?

Actually, my favorite song from a soundtrack is Jonsi's tune on the How to Train A Dragon soundtrack.

I love your choice, although the first few notes of that song can be pretty grating.

Was the lyric "suicide is painless" in the TV version? As many times as I watched MASH on the tube, I don't remember ever hearing it. Zounds! It just hit me that the TV version was instrumental. You see, I am getting better and may be released from the Home one of these days.

My fave movie song is "I Will Wait for You" from the Umbrellas of Cherbourg. I'm just a romantic at heart.

abe vs cheeseboy test? You should get your blog url connected to the "cheeseboy" name. I forgot where you do that probably in the profile.

"The Wall" - Good songs in that but I don't remember the movie. I'm dragon challenged so I'm not getting trained.

Hey Charlie - great seeing another thoughtful comment over here - thanks.

You are right about the instrumental and now that you mentioned it, I thinking the TV network didn't like the lyrics. Well if you wait for me, I'll check the umbrellas.

I still love the Grease soundtrack.

I liked the MASH theme song, too. I remember as a kid listening to soundtracks my parents had bought - West Side Story, Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar. I'm not a big soundtrack fan now, though.

"Hair" was special for me because I so wanted to grow my hair "down to there". My dad absolutely hated it. Before I was 21, I was in the Air Force and they didn't want my hair down to there either. thanks

that is a fun one and I suspect (anyone join in to straighten me out here) girls like it more than guys. I heard on a special covering movies and music that Olivia had that black outfit sewn on her. It was tight.

Oooooo I have to agree with Blueviolet. Footloose was amazing but I think i'll forever be a dirty dancer ;0)

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I've never watched an episode of M.A.S.H. I know it's a great cultural icon and all, it's just not something I've encountered.

I do recognize the song, though! Thanks for sharing.

what you didn't comment on our shared like for bacon?

I was never a dirty dancer just a bad one. thanks

I would definitely recommend the movie before any of the TV series. Both were good but the movie gives you the whole story. Basically (hey I'm a movie watcher not a critic) the movie shows the absurdity of war. If you didn't know it's about the Korean War in the early 50's.
