Friday fragment flush

Oh I’m holding a good hand here.

Who said, “you gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em”?

Wait wait don’t tell me - just hold that thought.

Mrs. 4444 doesn’t fold em on Fridays. She shows them. I am talking about the Friday fragments. Check out her site for many more (ask her about showing other things - cake pops, please now lets move on).

Mommy's Idea

I walked past a really nice sized puddle on my stroll through a neighborhood park. Fifty plus years ago, you could find me playing in one like that. Do kids still play in mud puddles? That one was completely free and open.

I’m a terrible speller and the spell checkers built into online word applications are the best thing since sliced bread. I’m so bad that after I had typed in my attempt at a word and noticed it was NOT highlighted I thought the spell checker failed. I opened another electronic dictionary to check. Turns out my guess was right.

“...clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right...”

Does that describe your daily commute?

Lucky for me, I don’t even commute daily anywhere but I do feel stuck in the middle at times. I got a few calls for tech support to my now-has-a-laptop MIL recently. I grew up with technology, engineering, software programming, etc. My MIL had never used a typewriter.

Too bad the email process is not as simple the dial telephone was. But even for that they produced an instructional guide. It’s short and someday it will be used for historical purposes when there are no longer any dial phones.

Did you notice that delivery? Oh we never had our new telephone directory delivered by a young guy in a suit and tie. Wow service was better back then!

A sad fragment from Wednesday. CNBC anchor, Mark Haines, passed away Tuesday night. Wednesday morning the shocking news was announced. He was only 65. When Mark was on the air it was a better show. CNBC covered this extensively and had a special one hour show remembering Mark. It ended with a shot of Mark’s empty chair.

I went into The Container Store. I seldom shop so these excursions are memorable. Shocked by the variety of hangers that exist on their walls, I started strolling around the whole store. I wish George Carlin was still alive and could visit The Container Store. He did a great skit about stuff.

I seriously might have to start being carefully when I eat late or what I eat. The other night I went to bed. After minutes of tossing and turning, I headed to the bathroom. I believe I farted a polka and I’m not Polish.

I read a good bit of news. I enjoy finding a story that provides more information than what the title indicates. Here’s the title:
Baskin-Robbins Gives French Vanilla The Deep Freeze
The main story is the retirement of flavors at Baskin-Robbins. I thought they just rotated them but didn’t know they “retire” them. In the story, you find out Presidents Washington and Jefferson had ice cream recipes. Now that is a great diplomatic tool. Also, did you know Penn State has a course on ice cream. Here’s the story link.

I think while searching for the meaning of life you can go so deep you come out the other side. It's not the answer but the question and the pursuit that counts. For example what's the meaning of donuts? What is the meaning of the hole? What force attracts coffee to donuts? I might just go and report back later about my pursuit of donuts.

Ok let’s table it for now, I know how busy you all are. Oh I’m sorry, still holding that thought? Ok go ahead and share it with us down in the comment section.

I wish we had a Container Store here. I think I would spend a lot of money in there.

Hi, this is Juana... the nuns and cauliflower lady... WOW, doesn't that sound swell? I just wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog. Also, I would like to say I will come around and visit some more, because I cracked up with this post...the Polka "song" had me in tears! By the end, did you feel like dancing?
lol!!
And the meaning of a donut is to make your waist look like a donut. The hole... re presents the EMPTY calories... the attraction is a FATAL one: caffeine and fat!
Thanks for the laughs

Terrible speller - yep, me too.
Mud puddles - I still enjoy them and my nieces jump in them.
I love that video!  I'm going to have to share it with hundreds of others.
I like polka music, but I guarantee I wouldn't like the one you spoke of!

I want to go to the container store now to look for those hangers that have pants clips so I can hang entire outfits on one hanger for the kids.

lisleman said...

Oh they had those.  Some with a 4 or 5 rows of clips.   So you put the whole outfit all together and you take the challenge of mix and match out of the picture?

lisleman said...

No I didn't care to dance to that song either.  Good to hear you liked the video.  Still can't get over the suit and tie delivery guy.  thanks

Do you always introduce yourself as the nuns and cauliflower lady?  Because if you do, you are my type of person.  No I was not dancing.  I'm glad you like it and thanks for sharing in a comment.  Oh one more thing I try to label my posts so that's a good way to find things by topic.

Hey if you want I could send you some used containers.  In fact they would be delivered in a container of some kind.  Now you have me wondering which is always dangerous - I forgot to ask them what their smallest container was.
thanks

Believe me - kids DO play and splash and get thoroughly wet in mud puddles!

You have lots of interesting tid bits here today.  Wonder why Baskin-Robbins retires flavors-French Vanilla seems like a classic to me.  I think Penn State's ice cream course sounds good!  I wonder how many students sign up for that one.  Can a person major in ice cream?

Spelling issues? More and more I'm starting to think that spelling issues are a must for engineers. Sometimes I think about the things that my son will never experience - like the rotary dial phone - and it makes me a little sad. We didn't have a rotary dial when I was growing up, but my grandmother did, and we thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Ben & Jerry's does the whole flavor retirement thing, too. They have a flavor graveyard on their site. I wish they would resurrect Holy Cannoli.

Mmmm, donuts....

We just watched an episode of The Vicar of Dibley on DVD and she stomped in some puddles and one of them was so deep she fell all the way in. I am not around younguns any longer and there aren't puddles here but I hope some kids still get a thrill with the puddle jumper stuff.

When I was young we had a black rotary phone on a party line. Wow, that was so very long ago. My brother and I were not allowed to use the phone. People did not chat on the phone, they just said what they needed to say and got off the phone an on with their lives.

"Stuck In The Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel.

I love the instructional video on dialing a rotary phone.  We've come a long way since then.  Come to think of it, can you imagine having a rotary cell phone?  Texting would take forever!

Always good for a few smiles, lisleman!

yeah that was the background music while posting this.  Most people don't remember the band name.  Wow what an idea!  It certainly would reduce texting.  Also it's not going to fit in my pocket.  thanks for the idea.

lisleman said...

I hope you are right about the puddles.  No younguns in your neighborhood?
I knew of the party lines but we never had one.  From sharing a line to today with every member of the family having their own phone - changes never stop.

lisleman said...

Oh yes my bad spelling is my engineering badge of honor.  I still have a rotary dial and it works.  I like it for the ringer but seldom make any out-going calls on it.  You reminded me of a post I was thinking of doing.  I wonder if readers care about obscure technical stuff.  I was fortunate enough to be in a central office that had a Strowger switch system.  The sound of that mechanical beast was amazing.

From the story I believe that guy is considered the Professor of Ice Cream.

Uh I have to admit, I have never experienced the likes of your blog before which can take me to the depths of sadness with a obituary all the way back to sophomoric bathroom humor!!! You are indeed ONE of a very weird kind! W.C.C.

Life is a mixture.  Thanks.  Your comment is one of the weirdest compliments I've gotten but I like it.

I love that divider. Very clever.

Wow that tutorial on calling is really cool. It's almost creepy. I'm waiting for the Twilight Zone twist, like the phone book delivered only called dead people's numbers. Only they were alive but it predicts they are going to die and the next day, they die.

Have you seen the tutorials that MST3K Narrate? So good.

Polka farting LOL.

I LOVE THE CONTAINER STORE! It's overwhelming, so many containers, so little time.

I'm not too quick with my reply on this one.  You probably forgot what you wrote.  BTW, I don't always reply to every comment but since my volume of comments is not too high, I usually do.
Love the Twilight Zone.  Did you see the one with a young William Shatner in the plane?  I don't know who MST3K is - a rapper, a blogger, a picker, a grinner, a joker, a smoker, a midnight toker, or just somebody on the run?
