sometimes its just a picture

A good photo brings up an emotion and sometimes a memory.

Do you visit POD (picture/photo of the day) sites?

National Geographic has a great photos on their POD.  The above picture of Chicago was today's POD.
(taken by Melissa Farlow, National Geographic)

The buildings rising into the mist gives me the allusion of endless height.   I liked the photo enough to make it my desktop picture which I change every few weeks.

One reason I enjoy this photo is because I've been to that very spot.  It's a recent addition to Chicago's Millennium Park.

Here's another photo from one end of this artistic bridge that I took:

sigh! beautiful...
Do you like those pics which are photoshopped, I mean really made unrealistic? Just today I looked one pro photog's blog and I didn't like his work...too much editing...But it's a question of liking...I like good photos like this one.
Your's is nice too! :)

Yeah, it's a nice image, even better when you see the larger size - I like the spot of color provided by the umbrellas - do people live in these buildings, or is it solely a business district?

Yes the umbrellas do add color to a mostly grayish scene.
The buildings are mostly business. The one on the left is the Prudential Building which was the tallest one in Chicago when I was a kid. The narrow one in the middle is the Aon building but it started out as the Amoco building. More in the background are some expensive condo buildings.

thanks - photoshopped? yes and no - I don't like a photo being presented as real that is fake. However, I enjoy fake pictures that are humorous or fantasy and have even tried to do some myself but I can't afford photoshop (other editing tools are good for me)

I can understand why you like the photo enough to use on your desktop. Nice to see your own photo on the end of this walkway.

Nice photos. Chicago is a great place. It will be MUCH better when Daley leaves. It is time for Chicagoland to turn the page on corrupt politicians and cronyism. W.C.C.

I avoid politics here but I have posted about ex-gov Blago before. I believe it's been 21 years with the current Daley (assume you know about his powerful father) and his departure will shake up the place. I expect some of the political machinery will keep running even without him. The Loop does look much better than it did 20 years ago. Many people give him credit for that. But you are right about corruption. Nobody needs that.

I like Photos of the Day - I do one, but I use POTD as its acronym. Funny though, I'm on vacation this week from it. It'll start up again on Monday. I love the umbrellas in the first shot and I really like the Chicago against that blue. beautiful!

I too dislike "enhanced" photoimages being passed off as real, but how can one tell? These are said to be untouched...

or am I just jealous?

Thanks for that link (readers check it out). Are you jealous that an American won the Royal Observatory prize? Those are amazing pictures. My first reaction was the picture is great because the location is great. If I was able to spend nights out in places like that I would probably get a few great pictures too.
BTW there are telltale signs that computer analysis can detect in touched up photos but good ones will fool the human eye.

I don't really go to any POD sites, but I do like the photos I see on blogs.
