where's the clown 4

Back again for another round of "where's the clown". It's the latest internet craze. (well I enjoy it)

Confused? About to click off the page? Wait - playing is simple, just leave a guess in the comments. If you really want to be a player you could also post a picture of yours on your blog for us and we'll come over and guess it's location.

This time I'm posting two pictures. I'm not sure if the earth object in this first odd picture is still there (this photo is a few years old). When I took the picture the place looked abandoned and I have no idea of what use the owner (if an owner even existed) had for this.

Apparently this earth model was made just before a hurricane hit (see the swirling storm).

This second picture was taken in the same general area but down by the docks.  I kinda forgot the story but a waving lady and her dog were famous in the town.

This should be really easy for one of my blog followers/readers, because I think she lives in this area.

Ok - where is it ???

If you're interested in the last three rounds click here.

Hey if you've read this far down you should just go ahead and leave a guess.

Wow that was quite an amazing Earth model. And what is it in front of it? A palm tree?

I do not know where the waving girl statue is but it is strikingly similar to the one on Elba Island in Savannah Georgia. What is it next to her? A lion or a dog?

I'm going to say the state is North Carolina because I think Jill had hanged out in the area :)

I have posted my Where's The Clown.

that's good but you could make a wild guess. Wasn't it you that guessed "your back yard" in the first round? so make a wild funny guess.

lisleman said...

you didn't notice that the tree is a palm tree - did you? None of those outside in Boston.

Your first comment on this has both right and wrong answers in it.

We have such trees outside in britland so it didn't strike as odd...

I guess the gulf stream helps. Now that you mention that I do remember being surprised by palm trees on a trip over there. I think they were in Wales.
Well, guess further south.

This bronze statue is a tribute to the legend/true story of Florence Martus, a life-long Savannahian. The story goes that in 1886 Florence became engaged to a handsome young seaman. In 1887, the grim word was conveyed to the island -- the boy's ship had been lost at sea with all hands. This tragedy seems to have broken Florence's heart. She then decided she would greet all ships coming to and from Savannah as a living memorial to her fiancé.

Florence became a sailor legend. She kept going through this ritual for many years, 44 in fact, waving a lantern at night and bringing along a little collie to keep her company. The citizens of Savannah erected the Waving Girl statue of Florence Martus to honor the woman with a statue on the Savannah waterfront.

Now come over to my place and see if you can figure out where I've been!

Oh shucks...I see someone already guessed it! Go for you FF!! :-)

thanks for guessing before you read the other comments - you're a very honest person. I seem to remember it being about as hot as FL when we were there.

The earth model looks like it was huge. Hope things are going well with you.

Even though the contest is over and I know the answer, I'm going to guess Savannah, GA so you'll know I was here.

thanks - it not like there are many rules to this simple game

Oh yes everything is going fine here. Yes it was like a small house. Like I said, I don't know why it was built or if it is still there. I was hoping that maybe someone from the Savannah area might stop by and tell us more.

I don't know, but I live near DC and it looks like stuff we have around here.

I love the statues around DC. Has anyone every totaled up the number of them?

lisleman said...

thanks for the info. I knew that if you stopped by you would know of the waving lady but I didn't know if the globe was still there. Do you know why it was built and if it's still used?
